Martin, John The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah Laing Art Gallery The Score is turning out to be in my top 5 Rozsa albums. It has the performance, the quality and the required passion. "Terrific sound" in and of itself has not been enough to get me too excited about many of the Tadlow re-recordings, though King of Kings isn't half bad as those things go. I haven't heard the Tadlow S&G so I can't comment there. I love Rozsa but don't consider this one of his finest. For my money the RCA Collectables single disc release sounds just fine, and covers quite enough of this score. Or is it THE INTRUDER? Golly gosh, I have so many questions about Joseph Gershenson and Herman Stein to post too. I think it's time for THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO again. I've decided not to order anything at all because A) I've spent my pocket money and B) I got six CDs about a month ago which I've only had time to hear once. The only Tadlow Rozsa I've become disappointed with is Ben-Hur but in that case, the original tracks via the FSM release are so magnificent, they are all anyone should ever need.īelated thanks for all the replies. There's really no need to endure the terrible-sounding original S&G. The Tadlow Sodom and Gomorrah and King of Kings are excellent. Currently, Koch is releasing DUEL OF THE TITANS (aka ROMULUS UND REMUS) on Blu-ray, so I hope that SODOM AND GOMORRAH will be next. I'm sure that the Koch release will provide English audio and/or English subtitles. Great news that SODOM AND GOMORRAH will be coming out on German Blu-ray. There's a 16 minute battle cue that never appeared on the old US LP. In particular, I find SODOM to be a phenomenal performance. Tadlow's rercordings of SODOM and KING OF KINGS are both excellent. The main title music is the best recording ever of this iconic theme. Also, the Tadlow King of Kings is very good and is a viable alternative to the original tracks. The Tadlow recording of S&G is truly outstanding and far superior to any of the original releases. The single CD on the RCA Collectables label isn't bad at all. I had the Digitmovies double CD (I think it was the first release), god awful sound, & the most mono sounding stereo I've ever heard. Maybe also better sources for Rozsa music are avaiable? Who knows, we will see.īTW, Tadlow new recording of Sodom and Gomorrah is just fantastic.Īnd about King of Kings - Rhino is completly OOP, olny one way is to wait for some reprint.īut, Tadlow new recording is also avaiable and it is. MAYBE it is a chance for new release of this fantastic score, because movie "Sodom and Gomorrah" will be soon released on blu ray, which is confirmed. It still sounds very poor, lot of music is mising, and there is few track in wrong chronology. Personally I have Digitmovies release of "Sodom and Gomorrah" from 2014 reprint in digipack. Can I get the Rhino release of KING OF KINGS anywhere for less than 10 thousand euros? Which would you recommend? Perhaps neither?Īnd while I'm here I may as well ask.
Is there any difference in the sound quality between the two versions? What's the sound like in general? I seem to remember that one online review mentioned that the sound was disappointing, seemingly taken from different sources (?) And what about the packaging itself? Same liner notes? A number of European stores have both, but the earlier release is actually more expensive. Then it was reissued in a digipack packing in 2014. If my info is correct, the first release was in 2007, in a standard jewel box.
By the way, I know that Tadlow did a re-recording of this, but my questions relate to the Digitmovies CD releases.ĭigitmovies appears to have released a double-CD of the score twice. Whatever, I started investigating, and I'd like your opinions. I think it was actually "our" LP, although it became "his" when I abandoned all my stuff back on Planet Earth in 1990. My brother was telling me on the phone last night that he'd been playing his Italian pressing of the LP (2-LP set from 1987), and that it was absolutely fantastic music.
